As our time started at ten thirty me and my buddy, namely, Kopal Thakur were pretty fast to get a lift as we were lucky enough to find one of her acquaintances with a jeep. He dropped rus to the end of the road from where we hopped into a gentleman’s car who seemed to be going to Sungard Ltd for his usual day chores. As kind as he was he dropped nearly 1 km away from our destination whereon we got onto a Mr. Jeevan’s tuck who nearly believed us to be some reality show actors.we still have to give hiom a call to tell him who we actually were.
As we reached Kothrud we first tried looking for McDonalds which we couldn’t find due preconceiveed misconceptions so we went on to enter a mall with some isurance companiesa like Aviva life insurance and Kotak Mahindra. I got a bajjing at Aviva for coming up with an extremely useless(acc to them) idea of a 2 hr job . They wanted our college to come to them for some 4 month treainig scheme with ambitious goals of sponsoring us. With hardpressed on time, I found iot utter crap but had no choice but to put up a smiling face.
Fifteen minutes down the line I found that Kopal was in hard talks with Asha advertising for some clerical work so I continued to find some other venue outside the building . As I walked up the road I asked some college students to give me a lift till Mc Donalds which I finally found to be about a kilometre away from our current location. On reaching Mc donalds I found out that it ahd already been a target of many attempts and that one must look on. I went into jaihind collection and spoke to he general manager , a south indian looking Muslim , namely, Mohammad Pasha who had some deep thoughts about me amd my buddy. It waqs probably the rejection of prior attempts by our peers to find an oppurtunity in his storre that made him have a soft corner towards my efforts and so, he gave us a chance to be interviewed by him first. By this time Kopal had already found me a job at Asha advertising for making data entries and she had already left for some presentations. Making data entries was a very fast job and they paid us both about 100 bucks each for it. Since Kopal was not available I left to give my interview at Jai Hind
The interview was an HR one. Personally I think it was way too deep and serious for a 2 hr onm floor job but this proves what service means to Ratails Managers. During the interveiw he questined me about my attitude , my beleifs , he asked me to grade myself in terms of openness and also gave me an extrememly complex case study to answer. The discussion was deep but proved me worthy enough for the job. I was in!!
I was alloted the Blackberry cotton counter . there was an immmedaite wqelcome from te other employees who revealed many of their constraints an insider information about incentives and everiday sales pitches that are mandatory for them to make. the best part was that they event took me into so much confidence. They allowed me to interact woth one of the customers. Afterwhich they took me to luch with them. I clicked some pfotographs with them. The attitude in the pfotographs well defines the chemistry that had developed between us. We walked up to the terrace to grab a quick bite. I actually sat with all the sales men to have their home made food discussing jokes with them. Later I came down by which time Kopal had joined in for a feedback from the customers.
The GM allowed us to take a few photographs inside the mall with some employess so we clicked Kopal with three other employees. We then left the place for some serious earnbing cause we had some 100 bucks still to earn. So we decided to go to petrol pump.
The first petrol pump we went to refused to entertain us but asked to go furthur down the road to find a petrol pump with a highly moody manager who was easily convinced to pay us about a hundred bucks for filling petrol for about an hour and a half.
Petrol filling was something both of us were doing for the first time so we both were fascinated initially to only get bored as time passed. One can only imagine the person who is doing a shift from three in the noon to about 11 at night. The serviceman assisting me was very helpful. Evenmore when I treated hium to a 3 rupees chai. Afterwhich he started playing pranks on the both of us which was very sweet of him. This continued for about an hour or so and finally aske for our rewards and leave
We came up with te idea of selling flowers at traffic signals. Since we could not spend cash we took flowers on credit from vendors giving an assurance that we would returm a healthy sum to them. We then sold the flowers for a sumk rs 15 each for an actual price of rs 2 this way we made sowehere close to rs 50 out of which we paid 20 bucks to the vendors at kept the rest. Thus it worked well for both the parties lkeaving us with a total of about Rs 330
After this wer started walking towards Bhandarkar and were lucky enough to ging our class CR Shilka to be travelling alone with one of her lifts. So we also tagged along in the car thus reaching Bhandarkar
All in all it was excellent constructive fun. Sometime things such abstract give you experiences which are so new and original. One never knew getting a lift is so easy if u are in a decent outlook cause one had never tried it. One even learnt about how coud life after MBA could finally be, how careful recruitment as a process has to be…… how innovative learning and earning could be….most of all it was some real fun and teamwork.
